Commissioning of Documents

Town Hall provides municipal document certification services and services for Commissioner of Oaths.
By-Law 3791/24 - Being a by-law to amend By-Law 3408/16, Commissioner of Oaths By-Law.
Commissioner services are provided at Town Hall during regular office hours. Those who wish to use the commissioner services are strongly encouraged to book an appointment to ensure availability. Without an appointment, a commissioner may not be available to provide the service.
How Does It Work?
The deponent or declarant who is swearing or affirming to a document, shall appear before the Commissioner. A valid government issued photo identification shall be presented to the commissioner to verify the deponent or declarant's identity and signature. The completed affidavit, except for the signature, must also be presented.
The signing of the affidavit must be completed in the presence of the commissioner.
The commissioner will affix their stamp to the document, certifying that the required oath, affirmation, or declaration has been properly administered.
How Much Does It Cost?
$30.00 per signature
As per By-Law 3767/24, being a by-law to impose Corporate Service Fees and Charges.
Commissioner Services
The Commissioner of Oaths and Affidavits shall only sign documents that are in English, so the Commissioner can validate the information that is sworn.
The Commissioner may sign documents related, but not limited to the following*:
- Consents to Travel (As long as the deponent has provided a Government of Canada - Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada recommended consent letter)
- Vehicle Transfers
- Change of Proof of Vehicle Ownership
- Insurance Claims
- Pension Plan Documents (Proof of Life)
- Province of Ontario government related forms
- Planning Application Forms
- Name Change Documents
- Cohabitation
*It is at the exclusive discretion of the individual Commissioner whether they choose to sign the document. If a Commissioner of Oaths and Affidavits is uneasy about the identity of the deponent, or the content of the document for any reason, the Commissioner may refuse to sign the document.
