Mayor's
Message |
On behalf of Iroquois Falls
town council, municipal staff and residents of our community, may I extend a hearty welcome as
you take time to visit and browse through our new municipal website.
The vibrant community of Iroquois Falls is located a few miles off Highway 11; you can access
many necessities such as a modern hospital, restaurants, groceries, and of course coffee!
Iroquois Falls population of 4,729 residents is largely bilingual (French and English) with a
very notable presence of Italian, Polish and Finnish cultural heritages.
Our community serves a broader referral region of approximately 6,500 people, with a modern 34
bed hospital, soon to be supplemented with the addition of a 15,000 sq. ft. medical clinic,
providing a much broader level of primary care to our community and surrounding areas.
The Jus Jordan arena and
Iroquois Falls Sports Complex continues to be regarded as one of the finest in the
province, having a seating capacity of 1208, the home of the Abitibi Eskimos (Eskis) Junior A Hockey Club, the pride of our
entire region.
Iroquois Falls is the centre of the true lifestyle of Northern Ontario. The area boasts
numerous outdoor activities, including a winter Lake Trout Derby, the annual Search for Moby
Pike Tournament, as well as the renowned Porquis Blues Festival. Iroquois Falls plays host to numerous outdoor
activities which includes boating, snowmobiling, ATVing, fishing, hunting and boasts many other
leisure activities in our many lakes and forests.
As with many other northern communities, Iroquois Falls relies heavily on the forest industry
to sustain its community, with AbitibiBowater being the major employer, producing high quality
newsprint and specialty products. The Monteith Correctional Complex is also situated within our
boundaries.
We hope you enjoy our new website and please come and visit us and enjoy our superb and
friendly northern hospitality.
See you soon,
Gilles Forget, Mayor
